Annual Report








Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen,

On the 29th Annual day celebration of Kendriya Vidyalaya No.2 Salt Lake, I take this opportunity on behalf of the entire vidyalaya family to extend a hearty welcome to our honourable Chief Guest Sh. Dushyant  Nariala, Secretary School Education , Government of West Bengal & Chairman vidyalaya  management committee, the esteemed members of the vidyalaya management committee, distinguished guests and worthy parents who have encouraged the students to unfold their potentials and achieve excellence in holistic development .  

Swami Vivekananda was of the view that “ The holistic approach of education means the moral development of a child. The ethical values imbibe the sense of decency and responsibility among the children. The school must be regarded as an appropriate platform for all round development of a child”.

It is a matter of privilege to welcome you all  & to share the experiences and achievements  of this vidyalaya before this august gathering. By the grace of the Almighty, our Vidyalaya has reached the pinnacle in various  fields of  activities. The vidyalaya strives to achieve excellence in academics, sports and other co-scholastic fields.

It is a known fact that every  child is born creative. The entire responsibility of moulding the future citizens and leaders of the country lies on the shoulders of teachers who act as friends, philosophers and guides and help the students to bring out the potential and creativities in various dimensions of learning and to make the best of the opportunities that knock at their doors.

The Vidyalaya strives to instill in the young minds a thirst for knowledge, cherish the values of culture and tradition of a great nation. All languages, cultures and religions come under one umbrella in this institute encouraging a healthy mind in a healthy body.

We cherish to see the kids bloom and walk out to serve the nation to the best of their ability. The Vidyalaya shapes their dreams and makes them worthy citizens of the nation.I would now like to present glimpses of some of the achievements of the the vidyalaya.


KV No2 Salt Lake has striven to accomplish the pedagogical standards laid down by KVS. The competitive spirit of the Vidyalaya has been maintained to achieve the aims and objectives laid down by the Sangathan. In the Session 2015-16 the Vidyalaya scored an overall pass percentage of 97.06%  in AISSCE 2016. The result of class XII Science was 100%, Commerce was 92.67%, and Humanities  was 90.63%.

Master Mihir Katiyar of the Science stream scored 94% marks and topped  the school , Miss Soumi Chandra topped the Commerce Stream with 91% marks and Master Robin Singh was the topper the Class XII Humanities with 83.4% marks respectively.

In Class X , the pass percentage was 100% with 21 students scoring CGPA 10 which is 16.44 % of the students appeared in AISS examination.

In classes I to VIII the result was 100%.  With a view to upgrade pedagogical skills, teachers of this Vidyalaya have been attending in-service courses, workshops and seminars. We would leave no stone unturned in improving our academic excellence both qualitatively and quantitatively in the coming years.

Co-curricular activities, in today’s scenario, have undergone a sea change. The Vidyalaya provides full opportunity to every student for his/her physical, moral, mental and cultural development. Children put their minds to test in a fest of co-curricular activities conducted under the inter house competitions of four different houses.

Under the Co-curricular activities, regular house wise competitions were organized throughout the year as per the CCA calendar formulated in the beginning of the session. Students took  part in various activities with utmost zeal and enthusiasm.

All national festivals like Independence Day, Republic Day and Gandhi Jayanti were celebrated in a befitting manner to foster the feeling of national integration and to keep up the true spirit of an Indian.

International Yoga Day was observed on 21st and 22nd of June 2016  where teachers and student whole heartedly participated in Yogic activities.

Freedom Fortnight was observed from 9th August to 23rd August which involved various competitions like patriotic song, painting, slogan writing, essay writing, painting greeting cards for jawans and play with freedom movement as theme.

Swachhta Pakhwada was observed from 1st to 14th September. It is a matter of pride to mention that Honourable HRD Minister Shri Prakash Javadekar visited our school on 2nd October , promoted Swachhta Abhiyan , participated in cleanliness awareness programme and inspired  students to create a plastic free surroundings.

Teacher’s day, Earth day, World Population day, Ekta Diwas , Ambedkar Jayanti, Childrens’ day, Communal Harmony and National Integration week, Constitution Day etc. were observed creating awareness and enthusiasm among students.

Investiture Ceremony was held on 28th October . Citizen’s pledge was taken by all members of the organization on the same day.

Under Indian School debating Championship, school level competition was held, and the list of participants was sent to regional office.

In addition to the in house competitions, our students regularly take part in various competitions held by different organizations outside the vidyalaya as well.

Ø  On 22nd October Customs House conducted ‘India Quiz - Harappa to Farakka’ in which total 59 students of our Vidyalaya took part .

Ø  Students of our School  participated in “Run For Rio” on 5th August conducted by Sports Authority of India to boost up the morale of participants.

Ø  Bidhan Nagar Police conducted the ‘Safe Drive Save Life’ campaign in which 75 students of our Vidyalaya took part.

Ø  ‘Bharat Ko Jano’ a quiz was conducted by Sri Ramakrishna Mission.

Ø   On 3rd and 4th Book Fair was organized in the school Premises by National Book Trust.

Ø  Students took part in a Poster making Competition conducted by  Coal India Limited on 28th October in connection with observance of Vigilance Awareness week.

Workshops for PGTs ( Economics ), PGTs( Chemistry ) and PGTs( Physics ),TGTs ( Mathematics) and on Children’s  Science Congress were held in our Vidyalaya in the months  of September  and October for the improvement of AISSCE 2016-17 result and training master trainers.

Career guidance and Counseling programmes were taken up as part of co-curricular activities by external agencies like Company Secretaries Institute, University of Petroleum and Energy studies , Indian Army and The Telegraph in Schools.


Hindi Pakhwada, Sanskrit Saptah Samaroh and language week were celebrated with great enthusiasm. Hindi Pakhwada was organized in the month of September for the promotion of our national language. Various activities like essay writing, story telling, slogan writing, poem recitation, story writing and Kavi sammelan etc. were conducted. To encourage the use of Hindi, all the official work and correspondence were done in Hindi. For teachers ‘kavyapath’ and ‘prashnamanch’ were conducted.

Sanskrit saptah samaroh was also observed in the same dynamic way which was laden with various activities like recitation of shlokas, Quiz in Sanskrit, Skit, Story telling, Group song and essay writing etc.  The events saw full fledge co-operation and whole hearted participation from the teachers as well.


Regional level  National Children Science Congress 2016 was held at KV Command Hospital on 21st and 22nd of October. Three projects from the junior section and 7 projects from the senior section were sent from our school. Out of them the project ‘Chemical Fertiliser- a bane to earthworm and microbes’ prepared by Sudipta Roy of Class XI B and guided by Mrs. Ranjana  Saha ,PGT Biology secured the 1st position and has been selected  for  the KVS Nationals  being held from 28thNovember to 1st December 2016 .

 Under ‘Inspire Award -2016, a science project of subtheme ‘communal Health’ was prepared by Bidhan Das of class XI-B. The title of the innovative project was “Old man’s stick”. It represented  KVS Kolkata Region at the district level held at KV Duliajan, Assam.

Indranil Praharaj of XII B attended KVS National Level  Children Science Congress and  represented KVS  in Open Nationals and received souvenirs.


KVS Social Science Exhibition Cum National Integration Camp 2016 Cluster level was held on 19th August at KV OF Dum Dum. Abhigyan Biswas of Class X- D bagged 3rd prize in English Debate, Deboleena Kar of Class XII- D got 1st prize in Hindi debate, Subhodip Basu of class VIII-  B bagged 2nd prize in Hindi debate.

Project demonstrator Abhay Banerjee of X- C was selected for the regional level. Hindi Skit got 1st prize and group song 3rd prize. Four  survey based investigatory projects were selected for regionals.

Regional level Social Science Exhibition Cum National Integration  Camp - 2016 was held at KV No. 1 Kanchrapara on 2nd and 3rd of September. Deboleena Kar of XII- D bagged 3rd prize in Hindi Debate.

In English Elocution (Jr.) 1ST prize was bagged by Komolika Chakraborty of VII- B and in Sanskrit  Quiz (Jr.) Subhadeep Basu of VIII B and Pratithi Purnita Roy of VII- B together bagged the 1stPrize and represented  Kolkata Region at national level held at New Delhi.

Under Cultural exchange programme sponsored by SYC Sunburst Camp 2016 ,eight  Students from different Kendriya Vidyalayas  of the country have been selected to represent India in Singapore. One of those eight worthy students is Master  Arka Banerjee of XI- B of our Vidyalaya who is going to attend the one week programme in Singapore which is scheduled to be held from 3rd December 2016.



The true university of these days is a collection of books. The Vidyalaya has a fully digitized and automated library with a bar coded circulation system. 11,014 books of all sorts and areas occupy space in our library. National Book week was observed and Book exhibition was arranged twice. The Vidyalaya has spent an amount of Rs 41,316 for the enrichment of library, out of which Rs. 7166 has been spent for purchase of Hindi books.



In order to promote Bharat Scouts and Guides movement at Vidyalaya level, various activities were conducted. Rashtrapati Awardee Miss Rishita Das of Class XI B is going to take part in the 17th National Jamboree of Bharat Scouts and Guides which is scheduled to be held at Mysore, Karnataka from 29th December 2016 to 4th January 2017. Two Scouts are selected for attending Pre-Rashtrapati Award Testing camp which is to be held at KV Santragachi from 10th to 12th December 2016.

On 19th November 2016, cluster level Cub and Bulbul Utsav was held at KV Ishapore No. 1. The tiny tots of Primary Section bagged many prizes in different competitions and add feathers to the fame of our Vidyalaya. Hindi Skit ‘Tara’ got 1st prize, Group song got 2nd prize, yoga performance got 3rd prize, Eng skit ‘Mogli ’got 3rd prize and drawing got  1st prize.

                                            8.   Value Education

Awakened Citizen Programme was introduced by KVS in the year 2016 in collaboration with Ramakrishna Mission, Golpark, Kolkata. The teachers were trained to provide value education to students through anecdotes and interesting stories.Classes are taken up religiously by four trained teachers of our Vidyalaya namely Mrs Sunita Mukhopadhyay, Mr. H.R Jha , Mrs. I .Dutta and Mr. R.P Mahato. The values imparted by great Indian religious  and illustrious  personality ,Swami Vivekananda are instilled into the young minds.


It is said that “  A Healthy Mind stays in a Healthy Body”. Students of KV No. 2  Salt lake  are equally skillful in games and sports. Our achievements in the field of games and sports are at par with academics. The sports arena brought in an endless list of winners and victors. 66 students were selected for regional level participation in various games like Basketball, Football, Throw ball, Volleyball, Cricket, Table Tennis, Swimming and Rope Skipping and Archery. 15 sports stars of our Vidyalaya participated in KVS National level sports meet representing  Kolkata region. Miss Anushree Sarkar of class VIII - D bagged 3 Gold medals in archery. Asmita Sengupta of XI- A got Gold medal in Table Tennis and Akanksha Shenoi of IX D bagged Bronze medal in Table Tennis.

Annual Sports Day of the Vidyalaya was observed on 10th of November. Various competitions were held to provide the students opportunity to showcase their talents in the field of athletics and other games. Manavata House was declared as the Champion House, Ekta House was the 1st runner up and Samvedana House was the 2nd runner up in the overall performance in the field of games and sports activities.


In the year 2016-17, upgradation of 20 computers were done and Internet Optical Fibre was installed. Twelve E-classrooms were created. One 500 hundred litre RO plant was installed through MPLAD Fund of Hon’ble Rajya Sabha MP Sh. Pradeenp Battacharya to provide safe drinking water to the students and staff. Two LCD projectors were installed in primary section and one in the secondary section. New furniture was purchased to meet the class room requirements. Repairing of furniture were done. Flooring  of fourteen class rooms and Chemistry lab were done through special repair works and painting of ground floor (secondary section ) was completed to give a better look to the vidyalaya building.


We continuously strive to overcome our shortcomings and constraints and lead the institute to the zenith of glory. Today we look forward with an optimistic outlook towards tapping the inner and hidden talents of our students in order to shape them into the best citizens of India. In the end I would like to conclude with the following lines “ KVS has been a pulsating , pioneering and pace setting organization. Our motto will continue to be bettering the best “. With our joint efforts we will definitely achieve the desired goal and bring  name ,fame and glory to the organization.
